Gordillo was born in Seville in 1934, and graduated in Law in his home town, where he also received his training in art. In 1958 he travelled to Paris, where he discovered informalism. The following year, he had his first solo exhibition. In around 1962 his drawings began to include figurative elements with close links to Pop Art. In 1980 figuration became less important in his work and he abandoned the forms of Pop Art to move closer to abstraction. His most recent work mixes photography, painting, engraving and computer aided work. His work has influenced painters such as Pérez Villalta, Franco and Alcolea, and it can be seen in some of the most important public collections.
